Affordable, nutritious, and accessible millet-based nutrition designed for underserved communities.
About JanPoshan
Started by Aadi Vashisth, JanPoshan is a community-first CSR initiative focused on improving nutrition among people of all age-groups. These could be children, the youth, men or women, and the elderly. Our simple, affordable multigrain millet beverage premix is easy to prepare and highly adaptable to daily food habits.
Malnutrition and poor dietary habits continue to affect millions of families, especially in low-income communities. Limited access to affordable and healthy food often forces families to depend on processed and junk food.
JanPoshan addresses this challenge with an affordable, nutritious millet-based premix designed to fit naturally into everyday meals.
JanPoshan combines nutrition science with community-led distribution to create a sustainable model that improves health while generating livelihood opportunities for women.
The Challenge
29% of children under 5 years are stunted due to lack of nutrition and 19% of women suffer from malnutrition.
The millet-based beverage mix is meant for combating protein and micronutrient deficiency in children, pregnant and lactating women. It is a low-cost product made with cereals, pulses, millets and nuts.
The millet-based beverage mix is manufactured with a technology developed by the CSIR-IHBT (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research's Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology), purchased from the Government of India's NRDC (National Research Development Corporation).
JanPoshan is built upon the core principles of POSHAN Abhiyaan (Prime Minister's Overarching Scheme for Holistic Nourishment), India's primary initiative to improving nutritional outcomes for children, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and adolescent girls.
Our Mission
To make nutritious food accessible, affordable, and adaptable for every household, while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities within communities.
How it began
JanPoshan – Nutrition for All is a community nutrition initiative for improving access to affordable and nutritious food for underserved communities.
The idea was initiated by Aadi Vashisth, whose father had acquired the technology for flavoured millet mixes through his company SoftBio Pharma Private Limited (License Number: 13326002000268). This technology for gluten-free millet premixes was developed by the Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT), a premier laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). SoftBio Pharma purchased the technology from Government of India's National Research Development Corporation (NRDC).
While experimenting with product samples, Aadi created energy bars that were appreciated by his football teammates. This success inspired him to extend the product to low-income households and teenagers involved in sports, starting at the community level.
Poor nutrition affects children, women, and the elderly disproportionately in low-income households. The lack of affordable, healthy alternatives often leads to dependence on processed foods, affecting long-term health and well-being.
JanPoshan was created to meet exactly this need.
JanPoshan began as a pilot initiative serving 37 low-income households with free monthly supplies of millet premix, supported by donors. As demand grew, these 37 women started purchasing additional premix at subsidised rates and selling it within their neighbourhoods, generating supplementary income.
The organic sharing of samples expanded the initiative into a community outreach project. Through this CSR effort, Aadi actively innovated, engaged with end users, and developed a fully functional grassroots model that now reaches more than 680 households each month, combining improved nutrition access with sustainable livelihood creation.

The Founder
Hello,
I'm Aadi Vashisth, a student at The British School, New Delhi, and I founded JanPoshan – Nutrition for All in July 2025.
As an avid sportsperson, I've always believed that good nutrition is the foundation of health, energy, and performance. The idea for JanPoshan didn't begin as a school project. It began at home. My father's company, Softbio Pharma Pvt. Ltd., had acquired a government-approved technology to produce a nutritious millet premix, but the project had been delayed. Curious about its potential, I started experimenting with the premix myself, creating energy bars for my football teammates and friends.
The response was overwhelmingly positive. They loved that the product was nutritious, affordable, tasty, and easy to prepare. It made me realize that if something this simple worked so well for us, it could also make a meaningful difference for families that struggled to access healthy food every day.
Around the same time, I noticed that many teenage boys and girls from the families of house help, drivers, and vendors working in my neighbourhood regularly relied on street food after school before heading to sports practice. Some skipped meals because they couldn't afford it, while others carried homemade food that often became stale in Delhi's extreme summer heat. Seeing this contrast made me realize that access to healthy nutrition should never depend on a family's income.
That realization became JanPoshan.
I started by working with 37 low-income households, providing a monthly supply of the millet premix through donor support. More importantly, I spent time listening to families, understanding what they liked, how they prepared food, and what would encourage them to include the premix in their daily meals. Based on their feedback, I helped refine flavours such as Banana, Dates, Chocolate, Vanilla, and Cardamom. I explored different ways the premix could be consumed, from hot beverages and porridge to rotis, jaggery-based energy bars, and familiar local recipes. My goal was to make good nutrition practical, enjoyable, and easy to adopt with minimal food waste.
As the pilot expanded, I noticed something equally inspiring. Many of the women who first received the premix wanted to purchase additional sachets to sell within their own neighbourhoods. Working closely with them, I helped develop a simple community distribution model that not only improved access to affordable nutrition but also created opportunities for women to earn a supplementary income and support their families.
Today, I continue to work closely with our women distributors, identify community needs, coordinate donor support, and ensure that JanPoshan remains affordable, practical, and is energised by the community. What began as an experiment by a high school student has grown into a grassroots CSR initiative that reaches around 680 households every month.
For me, JanPoshan is more than a nutritious product. It is proof that meaningful social impact begins by listening with empathy, understanding people's everyday challenges, and creating simple, sustainable solutions that improve lives. My vision is to ensure that every family has access to affordable nutrition while empowering women to build stronger, healthier, and more self-reliant communities.
